American company Motorola seeks to ban the import of BlackBerry smartphones Canadian company Research In Motion Ltd. in the United States. RIM has accused Motorola of violating its patents.

largest U.S. mobile phone manufacturer has specified that he had filed a lawsuit in the Commission on International Trade in the U.S. in connection with unfair trade practices and breach of five patents from RIM. These patents relate to some of the innovations developed by Motorola in key areas, including Wi-Fi access, application management, user interface and power management, which are currently used by RIM.

"We were not able to convince RIM within two years of trials that need to reach a reasonable settlement. We have therefore decided to file a complaint with the Commission and to stop the infringement of rights" - said in an interview with Bloomberg, senior vice president of Motorola and an expert on intellectual property Jonathan Meyer.
 

He said that disputes over the licensing agreement were conducted in the period from 2003 to 2007. Motorola and RIM already appealed to the courts, where each accusing his rival of violating the patent agreements. Furthermore, RIM argued that Motorola inhibits recruitment company laid off from Motorola employees.

"All or almost all" model of BlackBerry violate at least one of the patents, Motorola, says Meyer. The U.S. company intends to seek a ban on the supply of these models in the U.S.. If the Commission agrees to hear a claim the U.S. company, the period of the trial could last for 15 months.
